Hints for White House Escape
It started out innocently enough. You were on a tour of the White House, when something goes wrong. You black out, only to discover upon wakening that you are on your own in the White House and you must find a way to escape and get help. But along the way a hint or two might make things easier, and so here are some that may help.
Simply click or touch the hint title to show the hint. Touch the title again to hide it. But note, only one hint can show at a time. Good Luck escaping from the White House!
Hint 1: How do I get the key from the Ushers Room?
In examinging the desk in the Usher’s Room you will find that there is a key, but it is out of reach. In order to get the key you must use something long and thin that will allow you to reach in and pull the key towards you. Luckily there is just such an item at your disposal.1. Go the East Hall on the first floor.
2. Open the Piano.
3. Get a Piano Wire from the piano.
4. Go back to the User Room, and use the Piano Wire to pull the key out. Now get the key.
Hint 2: How do I open the fireplace in the Blue Room?
The fireplace is opened by using the gold key from User’s room desk. Once you have the gold key, simply use it with the fireplace to allow access.
Hint 3: How do I get on the elevator?
The stairs are blocked by the bad guys, and that pretty much leaves the elevator as the only means of leaving the first floor. Unfortunately, the elevator requires a code in order to operate it, and you do not have that code. But the code is at your disposal, although getting it might require a bit of effort. The code is on the partially burned paper note from the fireplace in the first floor Blue Room. You must unlock the fireplace cover in order to get the note. Once you open the fireplace, get the note.
Once you have the note, simply use it with the keypad beside the elevator. From that point on the elevator will be open for you to use
Hint 4: How do I get past the guard on the second floor?
Hooray – you now have unlocked the elevator, and you have the White House at your disposal. Unfortunately, your exploration of the second floor is cut short thanks to a guard placed by the elevator. What is an intrepid explorer to do?Well, the way to go about getting past the guard is with a distraction. Do you remember the dumbwaiters on the ground floor? This is your chance to put them to good use (and a Chance to find them if you have not already).
1. You need to find and activate the water alarm in a timely manner.
2. Go to the ground floor pantry. There you will find the dumbwaiters.
3. Use the activated water alarm with the dumbwaiter (it MUST be activated for this to work). The water alarm will ride the dumbwaiter to the second floor. The noise it makes on the second floor will distract the guard (you will hear a scuffling from above). Now that the guard has went off to check out the noise from the dumbwaiter you are free to explore the second floor.
Hint 5: How do I activate the water alarm?
The water alarm, as its name would indicate, sounds an alarm when the unit detects water (i.e. it gets wet). A handy source of water would probably be the water fountain. Use the water alarm with the fountain, and the alarm will start sounding off. However, the alarm duration is timed, and it will only sound for a limited number of turns.
Hint 6: How do I get past the guard dog on the third floor?
You feel certain that there is something on the third floor that you could put to good use in you escape attempt, but a dog near the Arch Hall seems to have another opinion on the matter. How do you get past the animal?Well, one of the best ways to distract an animal is to feed it. In your explorations you may have come across the refrigeration room. There you will find a meat locker that has, of all things, meat. Take the meat, thaw it out, and give it to the hungry guard dog. The dog will eat heartily, and then go to sleep. From that point on you will have free movement past the hallway. But be sure to let sleeping dogs lie.
Hint 7: How do I thaw out the frozen meat?
So, you found a nice piece of meat that any carnivore would consider tasty. But unfortunately it is frozen solid. While you could just wait until it thaws out on its own, you really don’t want to wait around for that slow process to happen. Then what is your alternative? In your explorations of the White House Residence, you may have come across the Sun Room. In the more casual Sun Room you will find a small kitchenette. And in that kitchenette you will find a microwave oven. Use the meat with the microwave oven and presto – tasty meat (but not on a stick this time).
Hint 8: How do I open the lockers?
You have found the lockers in the work out room, but you cannot get them open. How do you open the lockers and get at the treasures just waiting inside? Well, in this case we go old school adventuring, and we go find a handy dandy ever so versatile crowbar. Where can you find a crowbar at, you ask? One is tucked away in the toolbox. Once you have the standard adventure game issure crowbar, use it with the lockers to open them.
Hint 9: How do I open the toolbox?
The toolbox has rusted shut, and you cannot sem to get it open. What you need is a good quality bit of oil to seep in and allow it to free up the hinges. Sometimes a common source of oil is in a kitchen. Sometimes it can even be found in can, such as cooking spray.
Hint 10: How do I charge up the flashlight?
You’ve done well – you have explored the White House Residence, and now have in your possession a flash light. However, the flashlight is dead, and of not much use in its current condition. Luckily, it is one of those flashlights that do not use batteries – you only need to shake it to charge it up. Unluckily, though, no matter how much shaking you do on your own the light will not charge enough to shine (it must have been left on during someone’s midnight trip through the halls). So, how do you charge it up? Well, in your explorations you may have come across a large mixer. The mixer has a dough attachment on it, which would serve to shake and knock around something placed in its bowl. This is how we can charge our light. Use the light with the mixer, it shakes our light much faster than a person shaking it by hand could. The flashlight comes out a bit scuffed but shining. Now we need to find a nice dark place to use it. But be warned – the flashlight charge has a limited life span, then we will need to repeat the process (if we haven’t finished with it by then).
Hint 11: How do I fix the cart’s flat tire?
So, you found a nice cart, but it has a flat tire and not of much real use in that condition. How do you fix the tire? Well, the tire needs something to pump air into it, naturally. Luckily, there is just such a device handy, and it is in the clinic. The blood pressure meter, which incorporates a small air pump to inflate an arm cuff, can be used as a small air source. Use the flat cart with the meter, and you can manage to inflate the tire. That will make the cart into a handy tool for moving things that might be too bulky to move otherwise.
Hint 12: What do I use with the antique key hole?
So, you have found an antique looking key hole, and you want to know what to use with it? Well, this is complicated, but I will try to spell it out with detail. For the antique keyhole, you will need an antique key…
Hint 13: How do I make the piano sound better?
So, you have figured out that you need to use the piano to accomplish a goal, but when you try it things just don/t sound like they should. What could be the cause, you wonder? Maybe it is the fact that you pulled something out of the piano, leaving a few notes not exactly working as they should.Get the piano wire and use it with the piano, then try the music again. You should find that things work much better now.
Hint 14: Where do I find the Antique Key?
So, you have discovered a need for an antique key, but you do not know where to find one. Well, the key is hidden inside of something musical. If you haven’t guessed already, it is hidden inside of the piano. Up in the music room there is an old piece of music. By getting the music and using it with the piano you will find that a key falls out when played. Grab this key – it is what you are looking for. Please note that the piano has to be in good working condition before this will work – otherwise the piano music will not sound right, and there will be no key reward for playing the music.
Hint 15: Where do I find the alphanumeric sequence?
The door has obviously been in place for quite some time, and there is a large mechanical lock on it. To open the door, you must put the tumblers in the proper alphabetic order. Now, where will you find this sequence?Well, at some point you may have come across Poor Richard’s glasses. Wiley Old Ben, he was inspirational, if not instrumental, in setting up the sequence in the old days. The glasses must be a clue to finding the sequence. Maybe you should look around with them…
Hint 16: How do I get across the chasm?
The chasm is blocking your path, leaving you on the wrong side of escape. Just like the infamous chicken, you obviously need to get to the other side. While you could try to run and jump across the chasm, potentially risking death, we decided to avoid the whole dying scenario. That leaves finding something to bridge the chasm instead. You need something long enough to go across the chasm width. Such an item would be too heavy to move on your own, but luckily there is a cart lying about that would be handy to move just such a thing. Of course, you need to make sure that the cart is in good working order before you can put it to practical use.
