Hints for Escape from the Maiden’s Curse
The game takes place on the cursed cruise ship Distressed Maiden conveniently in the middle of nowhere. As usual, you have to figure out what’s going on, and escape from it with everything intact. And naturally there will be some challenges trying to prevent you from escaping. But if you have found those challenges stopping you from ecaping, then maybe these hints will help you to get back on track. If not… did you bring any seasick medicine?

Hint 1: How do I get the key out of the door?
In the start of the game, you are stuck in a locked room with a key in the door on the other side. You need something to poke it out with, and if you look around you might find just the item you need – a long, skinny hatpin. Try opening things in the room.
Hint 2: What do I do with the Crack in the Wall?
While exploring your surroundings aboard the Distressed Maiden, you find a crack in the wall. When you examine it, you can see a hint of metal in the crack. But a crack itself is not going to allow you access to whatever is behind the crack. Instead, you need something to bust out the crack and allow access. Maybe something that is designed for hitting such things as walls and nails…
Hint 3: I’ve tried everything and I can’t open the door to Room 303
So, you have found Door 303, and you can’t get it open. Let me just say, your summation is correct – you cannot get it open. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get into the room another way. Be sure to explore everything in Room 304. That is, if you can manage to get in that room…
Hint 4: I Can’t Get the Stage Winch to Work
You have made it past the barricade, and discovered a small stage aboard the Distressed Maiden. But there is a stage winch here, with the handle broken. What can you use to make the winch work?Well, you are going to need something to replace the winch handle. And, as luck would have it, there is just such a thing close by. But it is not going to be just lying out in the open. Look around for your grandfather’s word processor. When you find it, a little applied force just might reveal a perfect winch handle.
Hint 5: I Can’t Get the Tied Trunk Open
You have a trunk, and it is tied shut with a corded knot. You try to untie it but fail, and the cord is quite durable. So, how can you untie the knot and open the trunk?Well, actually you can’t untie the knot – time and weather have made the knot impossible to untie. But you can cut it off with the right tool. You are going to need something sharp. Have you found anything really sharp? Probably not. Then in that case have you found anything that could be made sharp? Perhaps. There is at least one item that, when broken, could make for a nice sharp tool. Just don’t cut yourself in the process.
Hint 6: I Have a Speargun But No Spear
You are doing great – you have made it to the second floor, and you have a spear gun. But, as these things to do in adventure games, the speargun has no spear. What is a bold adventurer to do?Well, obviously the answer is going to be, “Make a spear!”. But first you are going to have to find the raw material to make it all work. And if you have tried the metal pipe and found that it doesn’t fit, then you know that the seemingly obvious is not going to suffice here.
What you need is inside of that tied trunk in Room 202. But don’t expect it to be easy – that item is damaged. And if you do manage to fix it (which I am sure you will do just fine), then you are going to need something to make it a sharp spear – that hollow point is just not going to cut it as a weapon of some destruction.
Hint 7: I Cannot Get The Safe Open
So, you have found a safe aboard the Distressed Maiden, and have decided that you would rather it be open than closed. Naturally the safe is locked, and you need to open it. The safe is an older style unit, and a key would be great. But you don’t have a key, and chances are one is not going to turn up anytime soon. So, what can an intrepid adventurer do?Well, when push comes to, er, a safe, you will just have to pick it. It’s a big safe, you are going to need some really stiff wire to make it work. And, as these things happen to be, the wire is not just lying out. But don’t worry – the wire is safely tucked away inside of something else. You just need to cut it out, so to say. Have you played doctor lately?
Hint 8: The Fusebox is Blown And I Don’t Have another Fuse
So, you have found a fusebox and the fuse is blown (now who didn’t see that coming?). It is one of those old style fuse boxes, with the fuse base made more or less like an incandescent bulb. But you are pretty sure that a blown fuse is going to need to be fixed before things are done. And you would be correct in that assessment. If you ever had the old style fuseboxes, or been around someone who did, then you probably already know exactly what you need. But in case you never had the chance to work with such an old electrical device, there is something that will fit the fuse mount just fine (even if it is not exactly the safest of things to do). All it takes is a little common cents…
Hint 9: I need a tip for my spear
So, you have managed to find a nice item that would probably make a great spear, but without a good tip it just isn’t really considered a spear of any value. The item in question has a hollow end, which would work great for holding a nice sharp tip. But what can a great adventurer use?Well, chances you you already have something that will work just fine. Remember that ice pick with the wood handle? Well, the wood handle is going to cause a problem, since it obviously won’t fit into the hollow tip with that in place. You need to find some way of removing the wood handle from the ice pick. After you do that, you are left with a long sharp rod, just perfect for DIY spear making activities. Happy spearing!
Hint 10: I can’t open the file cabinet
In your exploration of the Distressed Maiden you have come across a file cabinet, and as luck would have it in such adventure games, it is locked. But now you really want to get it open, since there could be something of value in the unit. So, how do you open it?Well, if you had a key, it would be a simple thing to open the file cabinet. But since you don’t, you will have to just improvise. If you get rather abusive with the file cabinet, you might be able to knock loose the key button in the corner. After that, it leaves the lock mechanism back in the cabinet exposed to curious eyes. Now all you need is something a bit long and somewhat pointed to reach in and trip the lock mechanism, just the key button would have normally. Have you found anything somewhat long and pointed? Not huge, but something along the lines of a tool you might find in a kitchen or bar…
Hint 11: I can’t get out of the first room!
You wake up in strange state room aboard the cursed Distressed Maiden, and you would rather like to leave. The only thing standing in your way is the door, which appears to be locked. And you don’t have a key. So, how does a brave adventurer get past the locked door and escape the cabin?Well, you may not have a key to open the door with, but one is definitely close by. If you examine the door, you may note that the key is stuck in the lock from the other side. Since you can’t reach it, you need to be clever. You are going to need two items: the first item is something to slide under the door to catch the key when it falls, the second item is something to poke the key out of the lock, causing it to fall on the first item.
The first item needs to be something flat that you can slide under the door and retrieve later, so look for something along those lines. If you look around, you might find an old, yellowed newspaper that would work fine. As to item number two, I am sure something will turn up if you look around and open a few things…
Hint 12: How can I fix the rusty wrench?
Okay, you have successfully found a wrench that you could put to good use, but they are rusted shut. What is a crafty adventurer to do?Well, when it comes to a dry, rusty wrench, common water can be used in a pinch to cut through the rust. Water along with a lot of elbow grease can make that rusted wrench once again a handy tool for various adventuring applications. Now comes the question – have you found a source of water aboard ship? Good luck!
Hint 13: I’ve fueled the generator, but there’s no switch to turn it on
Congrats on making it that far and fueling up the auxiliary generator! Now you just need to power it up and see where that will lead you. But there is no power on switch – what is a brave adventurer to do?Well, there IS a power on button, so to speak, but it isn’t close at hand. In fact, you are even going to need a key to get to said button. Have you ran across a very official looking key? You may recall another official looking item aboard the Distressed Maiden. That official looking key goes beautifully with that official looking item, and inside you are going to find various things that controls the ship, generators included. In fact, you could say it was the control center of the ship.
But before you do, make sure that all of the power circuits are intact…
Hint 14: What do I do with this dead fish?
So, you have been trapped aboard the cursed cruise ship Distressed Maiden, and in your exploration you have come upon a dead, partially eaten fish. And, despite your acute senses otherwise, you have picked up the dead fish, only to find nothing worthwhile to do with with it. What is a fish packing adventurer to do?Well, some fish are attracted to shiny objects, and some (such as catfish) have been known to eat questionable objects for just that reason. Our poor fish here is no exception, and something inside the fish just might prove to be valuable in our current situation. So, we need something that will let us finely chop up the fish while looking for something of interest. Have you found anything that might fit the need? Maybe something you could use for slicing and dicing other material, such as paper? It will probably make a royal mess of the equipment, but I really don’t think think anyone is left to lodge a complaint…
Hint 15: I’ve Done Everything, Visited Everywhere, and still can’t finish the game!
So, you have braved the halls and floors of the Distressed Maiden, and went everywhere you can find to go. But you still haven’t escaped the cursed ship. What is clever adventurer to do?Well, if you find yourself in this situation, go ask for some advice. Advice, that is, in the guise of a fortune from a fortune telling machine. The fortune you get should point you on the path to escaping. Of course, the fortune is not free – Zoltan doesn’t work for nothing! It will cost you exactly one token…
